CHECKPOINT 01

Keep units consistent

A spread in pips, a commission per lot and an account fee in currency are different quantities. Write down each unit and the assumptions needed before combining them. Our spread measurement does not include an implied all-in trading cost.

CHECKPOINT 02

Identify the commission schedule

Read the schedule for the exact account and instrument. Note whether the stated charge is per side or round trip and whether minimum charges apply. An account label does not establish the commission amount.

CHECKPOINT 03

Review holding and conversion costs

Financing and currency conversion can depend on instrument, position direction and holding period. Check the dated account terms. Do not extrapolate one observation into a general forecast of future charges.

CHECKPOINT 04

Separate payments from trading

Deposit, withdrawal and intermediary-bank fees belong in their own record. A withdrawal duration cannot establish that a transfer was free. Match the requested and received currency amounts to the applicable fee schedule.

CHECKPOINT 05

Use a transparent scenario

If you calculate an example, publish the instrument, size, account, currency and time assumptions. Clearly distinguish an illustration from an actual trade. Our audit log contains observed tests, not hypothetical profit estimates.
